Beeliar Drive Masterplan

Beeliar Drive Masterplan was comissioned by the City of Cockburn as a conceptual design for the landscape treatment and potential public art insertions for
the road reserves forming the gateway to the retail and civic centres of the city.
From the outset it was our intention to develop a proposal that was modest in form and materiality but powerful in the way it would be experienced through its behaviour and interactions.
The design of this project was driven by a process of intensive investigation into the latent character of the site. The discoveries that were made during this process enabled
speculation into the curation of events and interactions that would enable the project to develop a level of interaction above and beyond what is expected for these kinds of places.
Beeliar Drive's biggest shortcoming could be seen to be its sheer size and openness in comparison to the human scale, as well as its harsh climatic conditions. We intented to take advantage of this unusual condition of vastness
by framing the site as a grand boulevarde, inserting architecture that would engage with and enrich the experience of all of the users of the site.
The masterplan has been conceived as a series of three key interventions that have been located and programmed to take advantage of their locations. These components can work independently
of one another but the most substantial experience of the site will be achieved with all of these components working together in symphony.
